Alot of skin care products offer alternative products depending on your skin type, however, very often there exists little difference between the formulas for combination or oily skin and their dry skin alterntives.
Because of hormonal changes that occur during puberty, it is very common to have an oily skin type as a teenager, but it can also be quite common in our 30?s and 40?s as well. The skin generally tends to dry out as we get older, since the production of sebum reaches its peak during adolescence and then slowly starts to decrease with age. This latter point means that for people who suffer oily skin, your skin may start to improve as you get older because of the reduction in oil production. During pregnancy and the menopause, hormonal imbalances also usually trigger activity in the skin’s sebaceous glands, which can in some women result in an increase in the level of sebum oil produced.
Many people have skin that is oily in certain regions of the face, generally the facial area we refer to as the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin), and dry or normal in others. This skin type is generally referred to as combination skin.

Use an antiseptic day cream before applying makeup and use a foundation for oily skin. Look for those oily skin care products that have active ingredients such as benzyl peroxide that help reduce sebaceous secretions.
Cleansing Oily Skin Although it may seem like a counter-productive measure to clean oily skin with oil-based products, they do actually prove to be quite effective in ridding the skin of excess sebum. You should avoid cleansing creams since these tend to be too harsh, instead choose a pure soap with no artificial additives, or try a lightly medicated soap or antibacterial cleansing lotion.
Oily skin requires careful cleansing with warm water to prevent the pores from being clogged. As already mentioned above, avoid harsh products that will strip your skin of oil since this can bring about a reaction known as reactive seborrhoea, where the sebaceous glands increase production in response to the loss of natural oils. Avoid alcohol-based products since these tend to strip too much oil from the skin. Try and limit the number of times you wash each day since overwashing can bring about reactive seborrhoea. While products that tend to leave oily skin feeling dry may seem beneficial, this can actually be detrimental since it can cause the upper layers of the skin to shrink which restricts oil flow through the pores leading to blockages and complications of the pores.
Treatment for oily skin When you are cleansing your face, massage with your fingertips, using an outward and upward motion, taking care not to rub soap into the skin since this can cause clogging. If your skin is also scaly, you may wish to try a deep-cleaning exfoliant every other day. Use a clarifying mask one or two times a week and a light antiseptic night cream from time to time if you wish. The latter should be used sparingly however. Choose a moisturizer for oily skin that is oil-free to help maintain a shine-free complexion.
Home remedy for oily skin 1. Puree 1 egg white, 1-tsp. Lemon juice, 1-tsp. Mint and cucumber and apply it on the face for about 15 minutes. 2. A puree of fresh tomatoes works wonders on oily skin. 3. A facemask of tomato, lemon juice and oats must be applied on the cheeks, forehead and chin. Scrub your face with warm water. This home remedy for oily skin is ideal for blemishes. 4. A clay mask is yet another home remedy for oily skin since it draws out excess oil. 5. If your skin is excessively oily, mix in a few drops of eau de cologne. This not only helps keep oiliness away but also helps in refining the pores of the skin by acting as astringent, thereby preventing acne.
