<strong>At any given time, millions of adults are trying to lose weight. Sadly, many of them won&#8217;t succeed. Others will reach their goal, only to gain back most or all of the pounds they lost.</strong><br />
But some of those hopeful dieters do succeed in their determination to lose weight. And they&#8217;ll keep the weight off for the rest of their lives. Here are their secrets to long-term success.</p>
<p><strong>Make permanent changes in the way you eat</strong><br />
Accept the fact that your healthy eating habits aren&#8217;t temporary. Once you&#8217;ve lost weight, you can&#8217;t go back to eating the way you used to or you&#8217;ll go back to looking the way you used to.</p>
<p><strong>Your new attitudes and eating habits may forever change your relationship to food.</strong> After all, a positive body image and high self-esteem are major factors in dieting success. A healthy lifestyle involves a lifelong process of understanding yourself and understanding that how you feel about yourself affects your behavior.</p>
<p>This doesn&#8217;t mean you&#8217;ll stop craving the foods you used to crave or that you have to skip an occasional special treat. It does mean that you&#8217;ll build this awareness into your daily eating habits, however.</p>
<p>When you &#8220;must&#8221; have chocolate, for example, eat a little bit to satisfy the craving. Don&#8217;t deny yourself until the craving becomes so intense that it can only be satisfied by devouring an entire pound of assorted truffles.</p>
<p>On the other hand, there are no &#8220;days off&#8221; when you can eat whatever you want, whenever you want. Recognize your own temptations and limits.</p>

Taking time to eat a nutritious breakfast every morning will start your day on a healthy note &#8212; and keep you from eating too much during the rest of the day. A good breakfast can stave off the late-morning snack attack and get your metabolism moving. Eating breakfast prompts your body to begin burning calories by providing the fuel necessary to start the process. Without breakfast, your body stores calories all morning because it lacks the fuel to burn them.</p>
<p><strong>Keep track</strong><br />
Many people find it helps to keep a food journal. It doesn&#8217;t take much time, and it encourages you to pay attention to what you eat on a daily basis. You might also want to note any feelings associated with the food you&#8217;ve eaten. This can help you identify any patterns of eating for reasons other than pure hunger.</p>
<p>Some successful dieters also opt to weigh themselves regularly. This lets them take quick corrective measures if their weight starts to edge up over the course of a week or more. It&#8217;s often easier to lose an errant pound or two than to discover you&#8217;ve tacked on an extra 10 pounds without realizing it.</p>

As a next step, establish a habit and work up to a goal. Walking is one of the safest and most effective forms of exercise. The faster the pace, the more pronounced the results are likely to be.</p>
<p>You may also find you&#8217;re more likely to exercise if you add variety to your daily routine. You might want to rotate among several different forms of exercise you enjoy, such as biking, walking, swimming and weight training.</p>
<p><strong>Think positively</strong><br />
Physical activity often improves your mood &#8212; a crucial part of maintaining weight loss. When you focus on the good results and positive changes of a healthier lifestyle, you&#8217;re more likely to stick with your new healthful habits. Focusing on what you&#8217;ve given up or what you can&#8217;t have will probably lead you back to your old habits.</p>
<p>Surround yourself with supportive friends and loved ones who&#8217;ll respect and enable the changes you&#8217;ve made, rather than tempt you back to old vices. Join a gym or find exercise buddies in your neighborhood. You&#8217;ll improve your chances of exercising on a regular basis and enjoy the support of others who&#8217;re fighting the battle of the bulge.</p>
<p>Losing weight takes hard work and commitment, but keeping the weight off may require even more. Often, the sacrifices lead to improved fitness, energy and self-respect.</p>

Added into the mix are natural cheeses, a selection of fruits and, eventually, whole unprocessed grains. There aren’t any packaged meats, canned vegetables or instant anything.</p>

However, bacon contains high amounts of sodium nitrite, an ingredient that is known to cause cancer. The more bacon they eat, the more they expose themselves to this chemical and many others.</p>
<p>The Atkins pyramid, and the Atkins diet books, recommends unprocessed, unrefined and non-manufactured foods for a reason. If people follow these recommendations, they will lose weight and experience health transformations. <p>Back to those packaged and processed low-carb foods. Technically, they are part of the low-carb program. They can be used in moderation as substitutes for your favorite carbohydrate heavy foods. In a pinch, low-carb bread and baked goods can help you get over cravings and add variety to your Atkins diet plan. However, one look at the labels of these products shows how chemically processed these items can be.</p>
<p>It is recommended that you use these products sparingly. In some individuals, low-carb packaged items cause carbohydrate cravings. This can make staying on the diet even more difficult. If you find that low-carb processed foods make you want to binge on carb-heavy foods, then its best that you stay away from these products. These products may also have hidden carb counts that will increase your daily carbohydrate level without you realizing it.</p>
<p>If you are experiencing a stall in your weight loss on the Atkins plan, re-evaluate your commitment to unprocessed and unrefined foods. If you’ve been eating too many low-carb processed foods, you may be consuming hidden carbs and eating more than necessary. Try eliminating these products and refocusing your diet on unprocessed and unrefined foods, like those seen on the Atkins diet pyramid. When you go grocery shopping, spend time along the outer rim of the store where the fresh, unprocessed foods are. This will help you avoid the temptation of packaged foods that can lead your diet astray.</p>
<p>You may need to rely on packaged meats, vegetables and fruits from time to time. We lead busy lives and convenience foods are part of life. <p>The FDA’s role is to take action against an unsafe dietary supplement product after it reaches the market. The FDA only takes action against any unsafe nutritional products after it reaches the market.</p>

Nutritional supplements are any product that is intended to supplement the diet and contain any of the following dietary ingredients:</p>
<p>A vitamin<br />
A mineral<br />
An herb or other botanical (excluding tobacco)<br />
An amino acid<br />
A dietary substance for use by people to supplement the diet by increasing the total dietary intake, or<br />
A concentrate, metabolite, constituent, extract, or combination of any of the above</p>
<p>Furthermore, it must also conform to the following criteria:</p>
<p>It is intended for ingestion in pill, capsule, tablet, powder or liquid form.<br />
It is not to be represented for use as a conventional food or as the sole item of a meal or diet.<br />
It is labeled as a dietary supplement.<br />
While hormones are not included in the above list, some hormones are labeled as “dietary supplements”.</p>

Dietary supplements are permitted to make structure and/or functional nutritional information claims. These are broad claims that the product can support the structure or function of the body, as in “glucosamine helps support healthy joints”, “the hormone melatonin helps establish normal sleep patterns”. <p>The possibility of interactions between nutritional products and a prescription drug is something you need to keep in mind before starting a new supplement regimen. A product may be from an “herbal” or “natural” source, but that alone does not ensure its safety.</p>
<p>Combined with other drugs, supplements can produce unwanted pharmacological side effects. Make sure plenty of studies have been conducted that show its nutritional value, safety and effectiveness.</p>

When in actuality, we should be  leaving behind this thought pattern and instead be searching for alternatives, such as finding good fat to eat. Let’s explore this, shall we?</p>
<p>Myth:  All fat is bad.<br />
Truth:  There are types of good fat to eat.<br />
Fact:  Over 100,000 Americans have too much fat on their bodies.</p>
<p>Everyone’s body possesses fat.  There is safe fat and excess fat.  People store excess fat on their bodies because they are eating the wrong types of fat…not the good ones.</p>
<p>As human beings, it is important to store a certain amount of fat droplets in our bodies. This is  necessary for preserving the functions of cells.  In addition, there are great many types of fats that hold great powers to fight disease.  The key to dealing with fats is to control both the amount of fat you eat and the kind of fat you eat.  So, let’s talk about some good fat to eat, OK?</p>
<p>First off, we need to discuss the composition of fat, briefly, of course.</p>
<p>A major building block of fat is fatty acids, which are composed of chains of carbon atoms.  The length of these chains determines how your body uses the fat. Shorter chains of fatty acids are absorbed quicker than longer chains of fatty acids are absorbed, which tend to be stored as fat.</p>
<p>Attached to these chains of fatty acids (or carbon atoms) you will find hydrogen atoms.  The more of these, the more saturated the fat is.  If the chain is missing some hydrogen atoms, the fatty acid is unsaturated.  One missing point of hydrogen atoms is referred to a monosaturated fat (found in olives, cashews, and salmon). When there are two or more missing points the fat is called polysaturated.  This fat is found in  fish and vegetable oils.  EFA or Essential Fatty Acid is present in polysaturated fat and is very important for normal cell growth and development.</p>
<p>Now, let’s talk more about the good fat to eat.</p>
<p>EFA’s are not produced by the human body. Hence, EFA’s are solely provided by your diet.  Essential Fatty Acids are extremely beneficial to our bodies. It even has the ability to treat many health conditions.</p>
<p>Being that the fats we eat are altered by chemical means, they have been striped of their EFA’s. They are now synthetic fats such as trans-fatty fats found in fast foods, stick margarine and packaged snacks, i.e. cookies.</p>
<p>Lastly, EFA’s are classified into 2 omega fats more commonly known as omega 3 and omega 6. These fats are both essential and must be included in your diet.</p>
<p>Omega 3 fatty acid is known for preventing and/or treating heart disease, arthritis, cancer, high blood pressure, and diabetes.  Omega 3 fats are present in the following foods:   Walnuts, wheat germ oil, salmon, sardines, tuna and other cold water fish. Also, flax seeds, purslane, and perilla oils are all high in omega 3 fats.</p>
<p>Omega 6 fatty acids regulate reproduction and metabolism, and are good for both skin and hair and important for normal growth.  Foods  high in omega 6 fats include but not limited to almonds, peanut butter, Brazil nuts, soybean oil, cotton seed oil, corn oil, sunflower seeds and walnuts.</p>
<p>Now that we have touched on some very basic facts about fat, hopefully we now are more comfortable with the consumption of fats.  Now let’s go out there and find some good fat to eat.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Walking is easy, you just do it. Right? Wrong. You should look at what you wear and make sure it is suitable. Here are five things to get right when you go walking.</p>
<p>Socks:  You must always wear socks which absorb moisture and which fit well. Cotton socks are not good as they can retain sweat which can result in blisters. Modern walking socks are usually made of synthetic looped material with extra comfort round toes and heels. In winter wear warm socks, but these should not be so thick that they make your boots tight and uncomfortable.</p>
<p>Shoes:  It depends where you are walking. Keep heavy hiking boots for just that &#8211; where you need a heavy sole and good ankle support. For general walking you need a lighter shoe with a flexible sole. Do not wear trainers, they get wet and are just not suitable for fitness walking.</p>
<p>Hat: Always carry a hat. In winter I wear a woolly hat which I can put in my pocket. If it rains I pull my anorak hood over it, so that my head is warm and dry. In the summer a light hat can be worn, or folded and put in a pocket.</p>
<p>Clothes: Never wear too many clothes. In the summer light clothes are the obvious route, but you should always use sunscreen on whatever parts of you are uncovered. After a while cover up as much as is comfortable, Sunscreen needs renewal and we sometimes forget. Sunburn can ruin your week, not just your day and don‘t forget you can still burn through a light shirt. So try to remember to take sensible precautions.</p>
<p>In the winter don‘t wear so many clothes that you can hardly move. Temperatures vary, but most of us are not crossing Alaska in winter &#8211; and even then you can still overdress.</p>
<p>Three layers are quite enough. Inner wear should be of synthetic material capable of breathing and removing moisture from the skin quickly. Over this wear a woollen jumper or a fleece. Outer wear should be a good quality waterproof (not shower proof) breathable  anorak with a hood and big pockets. I like at least one pocket to have a zip for valuables. I prefer an attached hood which can be folded into the collar. There is a compromise here, as the hood then cannot be very big or it won’t fold away. But trying to clip on a detachable hood at the back of ones neck in a rainstorm can be a nightmare.<br />
Tracksuit bottoms or jeans are no good for country walking. They hold water and can chafe the legs and more vunerable parts. Synthetic walking trousers are lightweight, have pockets and are quick drying. They are the best things to wear.</p>
<p>Rucksacks. These should be light. You should carry just what you need and no more. The size of rucksack will depend on the length of you trip. Of course you will need more for a five day hike than for an afternoon’s stroll in the country. The choice is enormous and the only way to decide is to go to a good shop, look, try one on and find what you feel happy with.</p>
<p>So that is our five things to consider for your fitness walking. Buy proper equipment and you will be warm and comfortable in the country.</p>
